StartLesson 4 · What a model knows (and makes up)
Before you start
About 71 minutes · 12 steps
What you'll do
See why a model makes things up about Northgate, then fix it: write the assistant's rules, give it the right policy with each question, and prove on a real model that it answers or refuses correctly.
Why it matters
A confident wrong answer about a bank's policy is worse than no answer at all. This fix is the base the rest of the course builds on.
What you'll walk away with
- What "hallucination" means in plain words, and what causes it
- Rules that make the assistant answer only from the policy, and say so when it can't
- An assistant that answers from the policy file you give it
What “done” looks like
- The tests for Write the assistant's rules and Give it the policy pass
- The live tests pass on a real model ("5 passed")
- You've answered the two quick questions
Already comfortable with this? You can skip the explanations and go straight there; the tests tell you whether your code is right.
